Mission Statement

The Office of Technology Management’s mission is to encourage innovation, enhance research, and facilitate economic development through the transfer of intellectual property.

In its primary area of responsibility, the OTM provides in-house technology protection and commercialization services to transfer IP created on the Urbana-Champaign campus into practical use to benefit the public as quickly and effectively as possible.

The University's Office of Technology Management was established in 1995 and reports to the Vice President for Technology and Economic Development. The Office is guided by the University's Intellectual Property Policy as detailed in the General Rules Concerning University Organization and Procedure.

The University is guided by the following general objectives:

(i) To optimize the environment and incentives for research and for the creation of new knowledge at the University;

(ii) To ensure that the educational mission of the University is not compromised;

(iii) To bring technology into practical use for the public benefit as quickly and effectively as possible;

(iv) To protect the interest of the people of Illinois through a reasonable consideration for the University's investment in its intellectual property.
