VIP as a Diagnostic Agent

The biologically active form of Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) incorporated into sterically stabilized liposomes (SSL) can be utilized as an effective diagnostic agent wherein it is desired to detect targeted delivery of the liposome product. VIP in liposomes can be detected by but not limited to radioactive label, fluorescent dyes / agents and acoustic reflectivity.

Description/Details

VIP receptors are widespread in the human body. Numbers and affinity of VIP receptors increases in pathological conditions enabling exogenous VIP interactions to occur which assists in diagnosing the pathological condition. The technology further provides improved acoustic diagnostic products, which have surprising reflectivity properties despite the fact that they can be less than 1,000nm and even 300 nm in average diameter. Specifically, the invention provides methods for the preparation and use of multilamellar diagnostic liposomes for improved imaging using radioactive label, fluorescent dyes/ agents and acoustic reflectivity techniques.

Applications
