Drug targets

Breast cancer is projected to be diagnosed in one out of every eight females born today in the United States. As highly-visible public awareness campaigns, like the pink ribbon and various Susan G. Komen sponsored activities, have educated the public about breast cancer, the market has become increasingly anxious for therapeutics solutions to the disease. Therapeutics for fighting and preventing breast cancer are not currently available on the market and researchers are looking for new pathways to explore.
Non-small cell lung cancer is prevalent in over 75% of all lung cancer incidence, with over 50% of the diagnoses coming in the advanced stage of the disease.  With over 150,000 new cases expected to be diagnosed and over 155,000 lung cancer patients expected to die in 2010, research into understanding and combating this deadly illness is greatly needed.  Novel approaches to gaining understanding and advances in this arena are highly prized; one such area deals with non-muscle myosin light chain kinase (NM-MLCK).  This kinase is a very important enzyme in the mechanism
Cardiovascular disease continues to be a leading cause of death in the Western hemisphere.  Cardiac arrhythmias affect more than 5 million people annually in the United States, resulting in more than 1.2 million hospitalizations and 400,000 deaths each year.  Heart failure affects 4.7 million Americans, 1.5% of the total population.
Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Microscopy (ISAM) (TF06039) is a method of tomographic optical microscopy that brings the power of computed imaging and inverse scattering together with interfero
S100 proteins are small calcium-binding proteins that are found at high levels in the extracellular milieu during inflammatory conditions. The UIC inventor has discovered that these proteins possess significant anti-inflammatory and anti-hypoxic activity. It was also shown that S100 proteins inhibit the activation of peripheral neutrophils by activating a specific type of PKC known for its anti-inflammatory activity, and have a protective effect against hypoxia.
