University licensed technology showcased in Smithsonian Museum
When Lane Segerstorm isn’t doing business for his company Cornboard Manufacturing Inc., he enjoys riding his skateboard around town (the Stalk It longboard, which his company manufactures.) When looking back on all of his rides throughout the past though, one will definitely stand out as being Lane’s most memorable.
On Monday, December 6 2010 Lane rode his Stalk It longboard at speeds upwards of 75 mph to set a new speed record for the Guinness Book of World Records.

"In-reach" helps build relationships with faculty
Last week, Technology Manager Emily Wee participated in a faculty luncheon for the Dept. of Crop Sciences to speak on behalf of the OTM and the services we provide to faculty and grad students.
Inside our offices, these luncheons are known as “in-reach” opportunities. Sort of the opposite of outreach, which is focused on outside companies and individuals, in-reach is focused on meeting with faculty and grad students from within the University of Illinois.

$100 million raised for University start-ups
Osage University Partners has raised a $100 million venture fund and partnered with a lineup of some of the country's top research universities, including the University of Illinois, the University of Michigan, Caltech, Columbia, and UC Berkeley among others, as part of an endeavor to help universities realize the financial potential inherent in the preemptive rights that are included in most licenses to University start-up companies.

Technology Manager, Emily Wee, recently attended the International Fruit Tree Association’s 54th Annual Conference in Washington state. What she saw was innovation among orchards to make their growing and harvesting processes more cost efficient and sustainable. The main method for doing both is training the fruit trees to grow along trellises.
Illinois’ Startup to Deliver ‘Presence’ to Realm of Audio-Visual Conference Technology
Nuvixa will utilize new software developed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The technology was developed by Dr. Sanjay Patel and collaborators Dr. Minh Do, Dr. Wen-Mei Hwu, Quang Nguyen and Dennis Lin at the University of Illinois’ College of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
University of Illinois Awards Funding to Advance Research Toward the Marketplace
The Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB) and the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) at the University of Illinois have launched a Proof of Concept Award Program to support commercialization of high-potential, early-stage technologies from the IGB. Two researchers have been selected to receive the first round of awards to help bridge the gap between the laboratory and commercial use.

University’s first two iOS apps available on Apple’s App Store
The first two applications that the Office of Technology Management (OTM) submitted to the Apple’s App Store have been approved and are now available! First, the official iOS app for the College of Business at the University of Illinois – this app has links to news, maps and events going on around campus, and much more! The other app, EOH 2011, is designed to be the perfect aid to the University of Illinois Engineering Open House (EOH).
